Hi, all.
I am Red Tash. I'm a former rollergirl, a mom, a reader, and a writer. I used to do a nationally syndicated column on family & parenting life in a few hundred newspapers, but this time last year I got really serious about publishing fiction, instead. I just released my second book, and parked the cover & blurb in the New Releases folder here on your boards. Hope that was okay.
I write about fairies and trolls who play roller derby. My protagonist in this most recent book (Troll Or Derby) is queer. So am I, but otherwise, we aren't much alike. It's fiction, after all. She's 15 and I'm an old lady.

But she does play roller derby, too. Hrm...I'm not making much of a case for myself, am I?
I don't know how many of you have grown up in rural areas, but I found myself thinking about that a lot when I started writing this book. There are so many books about the fae set in urban locations, but I'd never read one about teenagers and bullying and the fae set in an area similar to where I live. Meth labs, trailer parks, flea markets, tractor pulls...that's the kind of stuff we all love to hate, right? Well, I wrote a book that makes fun of all that redneck stuff, so I guess you could say I found a way to use it.
Anyway, enough about me. I don't know what else to say about myself. I came out as queer a few years ago, pretty much no one I knew from all my life accepted that about me, and some of my girlfriends from grade school-thru-high school are still trying to wrap their heads around it. If you're reading this and you're stuck in that twilight between being a kid and being able to financially afford to escape your circumstances, I won't say "it gets better" because you've heard that 1000 times. I will say that meeting new people who do not have their mind set on a certain version of you makes being yourself about 1000 times easier. In the meantime, escape into some good books. That worked for me when I was a minor. The worst thing that could happen is you grow up to become a writer and poke fun at all the stuff you loved to hate, right?
