This pairing is...complicated, to say the least. Tongue Especially in my mind.

I love Niall. He is one of the most fascinating characters I have ever met/read about. He is sweet, a little uncomfortable in his own skin, and still adjusting to his role in the Dark Court.

Irial...I do not love. I think he is arrogant, assuming, and annoying. (This may be because I read RS and then IE Tongue) In Darkest Mercy when he came back from the dead, I was about to punch something. It was far too happy-go-lucky for me. I wanted to see Niall summon the strength to move on, be with Leslie, and at times still be with Irial in his dreams. Irial becoming Discord-- and LIVING with Niall irks me. Niall will forever be leaning on him for support, and will, in my mind, not be a strong character.

What do you all think of this pairing? What d'ya think about the characters themselves?

LOL Vicky!

I love the relationship between Irial and Niall. I might be a bit biased because I adore Irial (I even bought a razor blade necklace in honor of him.. I made what some call an Irial voodoo doll (It is NOT a voodoo doll -_-) BUT I digress. for me Irial and Niall's love seems real to me. Irial is yes a bast*rd. What he did to Niall is far from forgivable and the fact that Irial was mad at Niall for leaving is a bit out there. But from reading the books and watching Irial's progression from INK to RS and especially after reading the short story Stopping Time. I see Irial's desperation to be forgiven by Irial, he doesn't push him though (except for the whole "Heres a Kiss you are now King BYE!" thing) Irial allows Niall to come back and forgive him on his own. I unlike my dear friend Vicky LOL squealed for Joy when Irial came back in Darkest Mercy. Wink

My dislike of Irial may also be because I haven't read Stopping Time. Tongue But at the moment, I don't follow, don't track his character's journey. I can see it, but I don't believe it. Like I said, my view may change if I read the books in order...but part of me sincerely doubts it. Even when I was reading Radiant Shadows I, unlike a lot of other people, didn't fall for him. I can see why people like him, and I've heard a lot of people say "But he's...Irial!" And I say "Yes, that's kinda the problem."

In Darkest Mercy, I would've liked a bigger, more theatrical moment at the part when Niall realizes Irial is inside of him, still alive. That moment sort of fell flat for me. I would've like less Irial/Leslie and more Irial/Niall.

(btw, you have to send me a pic of that doll at some time! ^_~)

Haha Vicky! I will send you the Pic.

Irial for me is the type of character you either love or you hate. He has his very bad qualities but also some good ones

Irial - Marmite character, no?  Cheesy For the record, I love him to pieces.

Personally, I think Stopping Time enables people to see the softer side to Iri. It certainly made me love him more! (Vicky, hint hint. READ! Tongue )

Niall is such a tortured soul, but I adore him. And I don't honestly believe he's leaning on Iri - I think they're leaning on each other. I can see why you'd think that, but Iri's attitude hides his need for Niall - they need each other, I don't see the love as 'one side stronger'.

Irial does need Niall. He seems to be better at hiding that he NEEDS Niall but Irial probably needs Niall more than Niall needs him.

@Vicky: I felt the same way for awhile...until I read Stopping Time. Then I saw his sweet side, and how he cared for Niall and Leslie. Then I starting liking him. I completely fell for him after Radiant Shadows.

I think Irial has a few small chinks in his very tough armor. He's good at hiding things when he wants to, and I think he doesn't want Niall to know he desperately needs him... but things slip out. This is why I was okay with Irial becoming Discord. Niall may be leaning on Irial a bit, but Irial will ALSO be leaning on him. And characters can still grow even if they sometimes need support. they defently need each other,  in their relationship they both need each other and I think that they are both not wanting to admit that until the end. They are both very stubborn

I'm a little rusty on WL characters so the details are fuzzy to me, but here goes nothing...

I've always had the biggest crush on Niall, and the only way I've ever been able to explain is that he is easy to love. (plus i just have a weird thing for scars). Irial on the other hand, is a little harder to love. He's the kind of individual that one is scared to love, so falling for him IMO tends to take a little longer and isn't as natural as it is with Niall. For that reason alone I really love Niall and Irial together. I believe they compliment each other well. When it comes to Leslie I had always hoped that if one of them were to end up with her that it would be Niall, however I'm content with how the series ended.

Saying that they need each other though makes me cringe. But i think that's more just from my own personal values about any type of relationship. I think they are good for each other right now, and I think that they can help each other and grow from their experiences together. However, I don't think they need the other one. Need is such an all or nothing word, and I really don't like black and white. I'm more of a grey girl.
