About Us

GayYA.org is a forum, blog, and fansite dedicated to everything gay in YA! We started in April 2011 after Jessica Verday was asked to change her m/m story in the Wicked, Pretty Things anthology to a hetero pairing. The reaction from the YA community was incredible and made it clear to us that there were tons of fans who loved Gay in YA and they needed a place to talk about it and be heard.

We’re a fansite with a purpose – we’re here to provide a space for fangirling (and fanboying!) , but we also want to promote LGBTQ characters in YA lit and send a message: That LGBTQ pairings are totally okay. Not only are they okay, but fans want them!

Through the blog, the forum community, and the input of you all, we’re hoping to start a conversation about what gay in YA means, what it means to be a gay teen, and what straight allies can do to help and participate. It’s not an LGBTQ issue: it’s a human issue. And what explores humanity better than books?

Since we’re brand new, we’re still looking for support and input from the community. If you have a suggestion about how we can improve this site, or if you’re interested in getting involved, please email maria@gayya.org

Thanks for stopping by!

I think this is a great idea. I actually have a blog myself that focuses on all things LGBT for the YA set…mostly entertainment, but we try and add a variety of things at times. Feel free to check us out:

Hello! This is my first comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and say I really enjoy reading your blog posts. Can you recommend any other blogs/websites/forums that cover the same subjects? Thanks!

This is a great idea to help generate positive and informative information to better educate and inspire young gay teens. In fact, I ‘m presently penning a gripping novel specifically for young gay teens. This novel encompasses such social issues as bullying, equality rights, acceptance amongst peers and family, especially religious driven propaganda.

You can find out more about this and more books I’ve authored for LGBT teens at
